A long day...

3/4/2011

Comments

These past two days have been very long.  Ellie yesterday woke up and could not move her legs.  I got very alarmed seeing she had a spinal tab.  Finally after some much needed pain meds she was able to get up.  As she walked around she had a hunch back and was just not feeling so well.  I unfortunately had to cancel my workout class for the day.  I just did everything possible all day to make her more comfortable.  Then Dave and I went to the Community Honda in Orland Park to pick out a new car (2007).  Our 2001 Honda Odyssey officially died and we need a reliable car to get to and from Children’s every week.

I thought today would be a better day, unfortunately Ellie got much worse today.  She began to throw up and couldn’t hold anything down.  Including her pain medication.  So I spent most of my day on the phone with children’s.  At one point we almost had to go back to children’s.  Then the nurse suggested we start the anti nausea medication Zofran (Generic brand).  So I called the local Walgreens only to find out they did not carry it at that location.  I then called CVS same thing.  Finally after contacting 10 pharmacies I found one that only had half the script.  They said it should last me about five days or so.  Here is the kicker, after insurance it cost $89.00 REDICULAS.

Worst part about it is that our insurance has a cap of $5000.00 a year for family.  So this means that after they pay $5000.00 then the rest is our responsibility 100%.  From what I hear it’s a $600 medication.  So that gives us 10 months just for this one medication.  Not to mention Dave’s asthma meds are around $200 out of pocket a month and if Jake has a reaction the doctor puts him on steroids that can be up to $400 out of pocket a month.  At this point you just have to laugh and go with the flow.  Let’s just hope in 2012 our family has a healthier year.  Oh wait that is still 10 months away.  Oh well. Anyhow money is no when it comes to your child’s life and quality of life.  Whatever it takes to get rid of this nasty disease and make sure she has a good quality of life.

On the positive, the Zofran worked and Ellie stopped throwing.  Then I got sick this afternoon and was unable to take my little man to the Mother/Son event at the park district.  Luckily Kelli let him tag along with her.  He came home and told me what a blast he had.  He has been such a trooper through all this.  He had a round time when he came home from school today.  I think Dave is going to take him tomorrow to do something special with him.

.  So on to the spinal tap results.  I spoke with the nurse around 5pm today and still no results.  Looks like we have to wait through the weekend for the results.  Please every pray that they come back that the cancer has not spread. We are already fighting an uphill battle.  We don’t need to steeping the climb.    Well I hope everyone has a great weekend I am going to try to update some pics this weekend and my blog once or twice.  Ellie is fast asleep for the night and that is good.  She is most comfortable when sleeping.  Goodnight and god bless.
