Great Chemo Day

10/27/2011

Comments

We had a great day on Wednesday.  For the most part Ellie was in a really good mood.  She sometimes surprises me and cracks me up at the hospital.  My favorite is because of her heightened sense of smell she cannot stand the smell of the alcohol they use before putting the chemo in her port, so she always says different things it smells like.  Our nurse Mary and I crack up every time.  She says things like “ewe that smells like the back of an old station wagon.”  Mary is always asking me where she hears this thing and I just shrug my shoulders because I have no clue.  On Wednesday she surprised me because she was working with the art therapist Willow, and Willow had to go to a meeting.  Willow asked Ellie “I have to go now, is it ok if you finish the art project on your own,” Ellie then responded in a firm voice “Who is your meeting with?”  I found it so cute and I was so happy to hear her converse with an adult.

She has come a long way in the past two years with her social skills.  I remember when she wouldn’t even speak to an adult and now she is asking questions.  So proud of her.  Yesterday at the hospital they celebrated super heroes.  Ellie got a hot pink cape to wear and then we gave Doctor Goldman a powdered blue cape.  He was hilarious; he was in a fun mood.  Needless to say yesterday at the hospital was a fun day.  We even stopped by the hospital on the way home and I got to see my new baby niece.  Ellie was thrilled to meet her.  She is adorable.
