Great Moments

10/8/2011

Thursday Night we had a visit from Mrs. Duffy, Ellie's 2nd Grade teacher.  She brought Ellie some very special gifts that Ellie's class and Mrs. Duffy worked very hard on.  Ellie's Class made her a quilt and a special video with messages from each kid that said what a special friend she was and how much they missed her.  I could not believe how much time they put into it.  I feel so blessed that Ellie has such a wonderful teacher.  I must say although our school district is struggling financially the teachers are amazing Oakwood.  Ellie did not display much excitement over the gifts when Mrs. Duffy was here (She never has been a overly very excited child) but after Mrs. Duffy left she spent over an hour laying on her blanket and looking at all the pictures the kids made for her.  It was extremely sweet and she just loved it.  I wanted to take this moment to thank Mrs. Duffy, The Class, and I believe it was Collins mom who sewed the blanket.  All of these things are making it so much easier for Ellie, knowing that her friends have not forgotten about her and they care for her.  I posted some pictures below.

So Friday Ellie had her stitches removed.   It was a very difficult day for her.  She buried her head in my chest while
she got them removed.  She screamed and cried to the point where my shirt was completely soaked.
I felt so bad that she had to go through that but they couldn’t do dissolvable stitches because her skin was too thin.
We discussed her beginning Chemo again in about three weeks.  I know Ellie doesn’t understand yet but I have a feeling the moment the elevator opens to floor 4 Oncology she will have a problem with it.  But for now we are just going to enjoy the next few weeks.

We also discussed the fact that Ellie has been vomiting and not eating very much.  Basically this could be a sign that her head is filling up with fluid or it could just be her brain just trying to get back to normal. As of right now we are just watching her carefully.
I cannot tell you how many times I wake up a night to check in on her.  But I am so grateful to have such a sweet child to go in and check in on.

I love my kids but I also love time away also.  So tonight Dave and I decided to go out for our 11th anniversary.  We left the
kids with my sister so we could get a much needed break.  Tonight was fantastic; Dave and I caught a cute movie and had
Dinner.  We reminisced about our one year anniversary in Monterey bay, CA and looked back at all the great times
we have shared.  It is so hard to believe that it has been 11 years.  Like all marriages we have our moments but for the most part he fills me with such joy and laughter.  This year has been the biggest test to our relationship ever and I think we have been passing with flying colors.

We are continuing to enjoy our wonderful weekend and looking forward to a great week ahead of us.
