Long day of Chemo, but a better day

3/16/2011

Comments

It was a long tiring day but it ended up being a really good in the long run.  We woke up at 5am to head down to children’s for Chemo treatment number 2. Ellie really had a rough drive down to Chicago this morning.  She was extremely rude to me and my mom as we were driving.  So I corrected her and then she started to hit her head and repeatedly say “I’m stupid.”  I kept reassuring her that she was not stupid she just couldn’t treat people that way.  Eventually she finally calmed down and the day started to take a turn for the better.

She had a hard time again with the port access but she calmed down much quicker today.  We had so many visitors from Social worker, Child Life specialist, Family Specialist, Brain tumor nurse, Oncologist, and Art therapist.  We also found out that Ellie qualifies for all the resources that are available of different foundations because of her condition (there was only one thing she did not qualify for on the list of resources and that is because it was for 15yrs and older).  Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing.  The reason I would say that it would be a bad thing is that means Ellie's condition is pretty severe.  But then again it is very nice to have many resources to look for help with small things such as Gas to get to and from the hospital etc.

The day went by very quickly and Ellie handled the Chemo so well.  We drove home and strait to pick Jake up from school. Jake was excited that I was able to pick him up and the staff at central where happy to see Ellie.  On the way home I took the kids to the park.  It was such a nice day and Ellie was still feeling good.  We only stayed for about 5 min. but it was such a great couple of minutes seeing Ellie play.  When we got home I totally pooped out and Dave took the kids out again to play with chalk.

Ellie handled the Chemo good but she did tire out near the end of the night.  Last time it took a day before it actually hit so tomorrow should be a new day.  I am so proud of her, she did really well today and it can only get better with more consistency.
