Long night...

​Its been a rough go is to say the least.  Last night Ellie was really out of it.  She kept on reminding Dave to make sure he gave her a hug before he left because she didn’t want him to leave without giving her a hug.  The poor thing had such bad nausea that is basically the only time she would wake up.   It’s a vicious cycle of managing her pain meds and trying to get her to eat something.  She has only eaten one cracker in over a period of a day and two frosted flakes.
It is a different experience to say the least with a teenager as she can express what is going on and it sometimes frightens me.  She is expressing extreme concern of lack of feeling on her right side of her face.  But this morning it seemed to get a little better so fingers crossed it just keeps getting better. 
 
My mom stayed the night so Dave could go home get some rest, take care of Jake, and get to work this morning.
It was a very long night they woke Ellie (us) up every hour to assess her.  At one point she had a very confusing answer to a question that made me and the nurse look at one another in worry.  The resident on call came down to check her and we felt like it might have been just a fluke of being woken up from sleep and confusion.  We where woken up around 3am by the resident again to assess Ellie, then Ellie had an MRI at 5:30am.  My mom went with her for the MRI so I could get an hour of non interrupted sleep.  It was a really good hour of sleep.  Then Ellie’s doctor team came in to check in on her again and said they are pleased with the results and they will show us the scans later today. 
 
We then saw the pain medication team and they decided to take her off one of her pain medications and put her on something else.  Ellie has two IV’s and one has been causing an unbelievable pain but Ellie wouldn’t let them take it out because she doesn’t want to be stuck again.  I finally made the decision to take it out as it is a backup IV for the one and its not worth all the pain she is in from it. Ellie’s catheter was removed and we are really hoping to get her up out of bed.  She has been pretty much sleeping except when they come wake her up every hour.
 
Last night Ellie was able to open her eyes enough to facetime with Jake, Dad, and the puppies. We got a half smile out of her when she saw the puppies.  We also showed her the photo of the flowers that where sent from Kasey since they don’t allow flowers on the floor we took a photo to show her the incredible bouquet.  Her first response was aww a small smile and then back to sleep she went. 
 
I can’t believe we are basically on Day one it feels like day 50.  I don’t remember all this from last time.  I guess I blocked it out just like women block out child birth. 
 
Thank you for the continued love, support, & prayers we have a long road ahead of us and it helps having a village behind us.  The sane goes It take a village. 

BTW:  The nurses say we have the best room on the floor because we have the view of Lake Michigan.
