Rough start to a wonderful day..

What a rough start to today.  This morning Ellie woke up and her port looked really red.  I contacted the Oncology doctor on call for children’s. They wanted us to come downtown to make sure that her port has not become infected.  Because her white blood cell count is so low they were very concerned.  So I packed the kids up and headed down to the hospital.  Dave had to work today so it was just me and the kids.  It took two hours to get down town on a Sunday.  We flew on the free way it was the side streets by the hospital that killed us.  The hospital was right by the Gay Pride Parade so it was crazy traffic.

When we finally got down to the hospital they put her immediately into a room so that none of the sick kids would infect her.  They decided it was a topical dermatitis which is a fancy word for an allergic reaction on her skin.  They did say that with anything that happens to Ellie it cannot be taken lightly because of her condition and blood counts.  So after a couple of hours we were released and sent home.

We already had plans to go to my aunt’s house to play with my cousins kids so we headed to Elgin for a visit.  Jake was so thrilled to be at my aunts, it took him less than 2 minutes to get in his bathing suit.  I wasn’t even out of the car and he was ready to play on the water slide.  He was so excited to have fun it made me smile.  Ellie also made me smile several times when she played with her only girl cousin.  Correction we now have another baby girl in the family.  They played hard today and we had such a blast.  A day that started off difficult ended on such a high note.   Thanks to my Aunt Becki, Uncle John, Cousins, Grandma & Grandpa George for making our day a much better one.

My Mom, Sister and kids should be home late tonight.  Ellie and I can’t wait.  We missed them so much.  Tomorrow Ellie starts safety town. I’m really nervous about sending her out but I cannot keep her in a bubble we just need to be very careful.  So for now I wish you a good night and god bless my Ellie.

p.s. I thought we were going to get kicked out of the ER.  Jake does not sit still.  Then they thought to act out Kung Fu Panda.
